    "Hancock" hits the Fourth of July holiday with $41.3 million in boxoffice loot already in the bank.

    The Will Smith starrer grossed an estimated $17.1 million Thursday, following hauls of $17.4 million on its first official day in release in 3,965 locations Wednesday and $6.8 million from 3,680 "preview" playdates on Tuesday night.

    In its first full day of screenings Wednesday, Sony's "Hancock," starring Will Smith as a reprobate superhero, grossed $17.4 million in its 3,965 locations.

    Having collected an additional $6.8 million from Tuesday night previews in 3,680 theaters, the movie's total from its first 1 1/2 days adds up to $24.2 million.

    Sony's "Hancock" is being distributed in 4K for digital cinema, which has prompted some fresh discussion about the resolution.

    For the Will Smith starrer, Sony created a 4K Digital Cinema Package, or DCP, which is the set of files that are compressed, encrypted and packaged for digital-cinema distribution. In digital distribution, the DCP essentially is the equivalent of the film print.

He struggled several times to pronounce "I would like a ticket for 'WALL-E' " only to learn that the show was sold out.
